Villa Minerva

4

The road rises up alongside the complex of Villa Minerva.

The villa, which in the ancient land registers is also indicated by the names of Baroncelli and Poggio Baronti, belonged to Simon della Robbia in 1427 and remained in the possessions of this family until the end of the century. It would have therefore also belonged to Luca della Robbia who certainly lived there in the last years of his life. It then belonged to the Mellini and from 1591 until the end of eighteenth century belonged to the Alamanni, who also owned the nearby villa also called Poggio Baronti and Baroncelli.
In 1826 it was bought by Giovanni Poggi and on his death was inherited by his son Enrico, who was a senator for the Kingdom of Italy. He reduced the villa to a house-farm and sold it in 1890 to Giovanni Candrion. Two farms with its farmhouses called Il vivaio or Poggio Baronti I and Poggio Baronti II were attached to the property.
