Villa il Tabernacolo

2

La Torre del Camicia modernly called Il Tabernacolo (The Tabernacle) was originally a medieval noble house which, as shown by a plaque affixed to the entrance, dates back to 1280.

The construction period is confirmed by its vertical structure, which we find in the most ancient examples of buildings from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. On the façade we notice two portals which are now walled up, and, at the first floor, a third door, which is also walled. The arches, rounded, are made from sandstone, while the entire facade is made from blocks of limestone.
For centuries, the property belonged to the Del Nero family, in fact, the registers from 1427 already show that Piero Bernardo Del Nero owned a noble house and farm worker house in the area; in the Carte dei Capitani di Parte (XVI century) it is referred to as belonging to the “Del Nero”; while in the cartography from 1774 we find “House of Mr. Baron del Nero”. The coat of arms of the family, with a dog, is still recognizable on the façade of the structure.
