The Parish Church of San Pietro a Ripoli

4

Description

The Church of San Pietro a Ripoli was built before the year one thousand, on an ancient pilgrimage route that allowed passage to Rome, Assisi and the Loreto sanctuary. During the Middle Ages, this road became very important for trade between Florence and Arezzo, and many inns and hospitality and service establishments have been constructed around the church.

The building has undergone many changes and renovations over time also due to the extensive damage caused by the earthquake of 1895.

With the 1932 restoration, the Church’s Romanesque style has been reinstated, eliminating in this way the various Baroque elements that had been added.

The parish church is only open during religious functions.
