The Oratory of SS. Annunziata overlooks the ancient and evocative Via della Villa Cedri, near la Nave a Rovezzano. The exquisite architectural structure dates to the fifteenth century: a chamber room paved in red brick, wood trusses, a square apse supported by beautiful carved pilasters and capitals in sandstone. The attribution to Michelozzo is also suggested thanks to the typical brick indentations along the eaves. Precise references to the glorious past remain, such as the marble plaque of the Arte della Lana (Wool Guild), the Ospizio Bonifazi (Bonifazi Hospice) caption and the Bardi coat of arms, former owners of the chapel and the nearby Villa Cedri. For nearly 15 years this Oratory, run as a workshop studio by Giulio Clementi (painter, decorator, interior designer and musician) and Susy Bellucci (singer, actress and musician), is dedicated to culture and art in all its forms: painting, design, music, performing arts, teaching and seminars of all kinds. Equipped as a real Renaissance workshop to address any painting technique, it has a valuable “pharmacy” of materials and old workbooks and a rich thematic library of specialized texts, ranging from art history to artistic craftsmanship and restoration. Musical interests, from teaching to record production, make use of a digital recording studio and a rich audiovisual library. Important artists on the Italian scene have premiered their shows here for years, both inside the Oratory and in the beautiful garden next door equipped with a stage, seating area and professional audio equipment. This is where the Orto Sconcluso (Rambling Garden) was born and established, one of the most original and popular institutions of Florentine culture, which is also an ideal venue for entertaining flea markets, themed festivals, poetry readings and cabaret and small theater productions.
