Osteria Nuova

1

Description

The village lies 225 meters high on the slopes of Monte Pilli (491m) and arises from the second half of the eighteenth century on the new Strada Aretina. In 1774 a post station was inaugurated (Barco II or Landrone) and in 1778 the name Osteria Nuova was recorded. But it was especially in the late nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth that most of the houses arose and the village took its shape as we see it now. It was inhabited mainly by small artisans and merchants, lodgers who worked daily both in agriculture and in construction.
