Church of Santa Maria a Quarto

3

Description

The Church of Santa Maria a Quarto owes its name to the fact of being built on the fourth Roman mile of the ancient Via Aretina.

This thirteenth century structure was heavily modified and altered over the centuries. This church, like many other buildings in the Ripolese territory, was damaged by the earthquake of 1895.

The last restoration dates to the first half of the twentieth century and gave the building its Gothic appearance.

The interior walls, which were once painted, have been unfortunately plastered over, but the church retains some paintings including the Madonna del Latte della Bottega by Bernardo Daddi.
