Villa Il Riposo

Description

Villa Il Riposo is a fifteenth century residence built by Bernardo Vecchietti, a Florentine patron and collector, on an existing mansion. Bernardo, not only took care of building his new residence, but also made works on the surrounding countryside, inspired by Medici villas. In this large park, artifacts dedicated to religion and hunting, the Fonte della Fata Morgana (Fata Morgana’s Spring) and an Italian garden on the south side of the residence are on display for you.

The villa is notable for its large porch and numerous frescos, but unfortunately, the exterior decoration has been partially unfinished with Vecchietti’s death.

The Vecchietti family remained owners of the villa until 1871, when it was purchased by the Signorini family who still resides there. The villa’s private property cannot be, unfortunately, visited.
