Marina di Candeli Amateur Sports Association Club

The Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Circolo Marina di Candeli (Marina di Candeli Amateur Sports Association Club) was founded in February 1998 with the aim of spreading sport at the grassroots level in the Bagno a Ripoli and Florence South area.

The association has taken advantage of the voluntary work of its members, promoting cultural, recreational, social, and sports activities involving in particular the young, the elderly and the disabled. Formed as an “after work” club for municipal employees, or as the CRAL (Recreational and Welfare Center for Workers) of Bagno a Ripoli, the Association has increasingly established itself as a social meeting point in the area.

It’s a non-profit organization.

Later the name was changed to “Marina di Candeli” Amateur Sports Association Club as the area that overlooks the River Arno was once called.

The Association is affiliated with the Unione Italiana Sport Populare (UISP) (Sport For All Italian Union) and the Italian National Olympic Committee as a sports club for various disciplines including tennis, canoeing, football, bicycle touring, mountain biking, dragon boating, hiking, trekking, skiing and sailing. The most practiced activities are tennis and river canoeing, although trekking, mountain biking and sailing courses and demonstrations are also organized.

Among other activities we can include the organization of free annual courses for both tennis and canoe for elementary, middle and high school children, as well as non-competitive tournaments to promote the practice of physical activity and socialization.

Cultural and social initiatives that stimulate interest in area issues and environmental protection are also promoted. In this regard, the Festa dell’Arno (Festival of the Arno) is held every year, attended by hundreds of people and authorities with the aim of reviving the use of the river by citizens. Theatrical and musical events, photography contests, tours of the Arno in small boats or canoes, bowls, volleyball and beach volleyball competitions and Dragon trips comprise the festivals.

The club is located on the banks of the Arno, amidst greenery: we could call it an oasis, suitable for relaxing with daily opportunities for recreation and socializing.

Members of the municipal summer camp centers are also housed at the sports establishment. Tennis and canoeing instructors are put at their disposal for free and boat trips and educational walks on the banks of the Arno are organized.

Great attention is given to those who are disadvantaged. The club has always made its establishment available to collaborate on integration projects carried out by the social services of ASL Enterprises and Cooperatives that assist people with disabilities, and also strives to integrate marginalized people.
